I may have broke my spending ban (a lot)

Saturday 19 January 2013

My old camera decided to retire and leave me for good. So I needed to buy a replacement. I have always wanted a DSLR camera but have always been put off by the prices and of course the skill level required to use them. My old camera was just an average 'point and shoot', nothing too fancy. After much searching I decided to take the plunge and buy myself something I could learn to use and would last a long time and hopefully develop into a hobby! I decided on the nikon d3000 and so far so good! There are lots of buttons and strange numbers, but thank goodness for google! I would love some tips if you have any!

My 50 day spending ban starts again today!
(I don't have much hope after this incident and many others)

  1. You will get so much use and love out of your new DSLR, that I think it was worth breaking the spending ban :) and better to invest it in something as wonderful as a DSLR rather than another point and shoot! You will find that you learn what suits you best as you go along with your DSLR. Nobody who owns a DSLR knows what all the buttons and features do - and if they do, they have too much spare time!!! I know people on photography courses, even pro photographers, and they don't even know everything. It's all about learning what you need as you need it, and it will come in time. Some things I find handy are on Pinterest, there are lots of pins that are titled things like '10 things you should know about your camera' and so on :) those sorts of little tips are always useful, and if you have a free day where you just want to play around, it's nice to have a go at some of them. Good luck, have fun, and I am looking forward to seeing many a beautiful photo!! xx

  10. Haha, oopsie! Although it's not really an impulse buy, it's more of a necessity if your other camera is broken :) I'm saving up for a new camera at the moment too! xo

  12. Lucky you! Canon Austrailia on Youtube has some great video tutorials on how to use creative and prectical settings on a DSLR. Even though you bought a Nikon, not a Canon, the facts still apply! Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmVUSro_FNA&list=PL0435EFCECA56C380&index=16

    I hope this helps!

    1. I actually just bought a Nikon D3100, my first DSLR camera, a few months ago. I told my dad it was for uni, when really I just wanted to take photos for my new beauty blog XD. I'm still struggling with the mechanics of it all, considering I bought it knowing absolutely nothing about photography, so cheers for link! It's really helped a lot!

  13. I have this camera and I love it. So good for beginners stuff and more technical stuff. I totally recommend you invest in a tripod and a remote too, it makes taking clear photos so much easier especially if you want to play around with some shutter speed settings :) Tripods and remotes are pretty affordable too! Can't wait to see the pictures you take with it :) xxx
